Educators & Parents as Allies: A Research-Based, Family-Centered Approach
Santa Clara County Office of Education’s Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Program partners with the NYC Leadership Academy to bring you a leadership webinar series featuring content experts from across the country to tackle just-in-time topics and discuss tangible strategies that schools and school systems can adopt around alternatives to suspensions for vape/tobacco related offenses and beyond.

The purpose of these webinars is to:

• Leverage COVID-19 as our “equity check” to ensure that all students remain socially, emotionally, and academically whole throughout and after the pandemic

• Support a deeper understanding of restorative practices in order to reduce out-of-school time and provide targeted and customized supports for students

• Provide a local and national lens around best practices highlighting the urgency and necessity to rebuild school climate and culture through a strengths-based, relationship-building, and equity-focused approach

Webinar Objectives:

•Leading and supporting families in the time of a pandemic

•Culturally-responsive outreach and communication strategies to boost families’ engagement throughout the year

•Explore strategies to support teens navigate stressors related to crisis, such as social isolation, distance learning and addiction

•Providing leaders, teachers, and families with strategies to more effectively communicate with youth around difficult topics such as tobacco/vape use and other coping mechanisms
